MAKING ITS MARK LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY

Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC) is one of the two domestic credit rating agencies in the country. Backed by a team of experienced rating analysts, MARC provides independent credit opinions and analysis of the financial strength of issuers, banks, insurance companies and ratings of corporate debt issues. These include ratings of Islamic capital market instruments and structured finance ratings.

Since it started operations in 1996, MARC has made significant inroads into the Malaysian corporate bond market, especially in the rating of Islamic debt securities. It is the first rating agency to introduce a specific set of rating symbols and definitions for the rating of Islamic capital market instruments. It also has its own Syariah Advisory Panel to advise on Islamic rating products and rating definitions.

The company has been consistent in promoting and developing the Islamic capital market. In 2005, MARC rated the world's first asset backed issue based on musyarakah principles. In the same year, one of MARC rated Islamic issues won Euromoney's Prestigious Islamic Finance Deal of the Year Award and Finance Asia's inaugural Best Islamic Finance Deal 2005. Another significant milestone was the rating by MARC International Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary in Labuan, of the US$395 million Serial Islamic Lease Sukuk Issuance by First Global Sukuk Inc in 2001. This was the first rating of its kind internationally and the first global issue of an Islamic capital market instrument listed by the Labuan International Finance Exchange.

MARC is a public limited company with a paid-up capital of RM 20 million. Its shareholders comprise the major insurance companies, stockbrokers and discount houses in Malaysia.
